Pictured is the Ginkgo tree found in Gu Guanyin Temple, Zhongnan Mountains, Xi’an. The temple was built in Tang dynasty in 628, with more than 1,400 years history. It’s said this ginkgo tree is planted by Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong himself. The species is nearly 270 million years old, making Ginkgo Biloba the oldest living tree species in existance, having withstood multiple mass extinction level events. Ginkgo is known to promote blood circulation in the brain and protect against neuronal damage. Clinical trials have shown to counteract signs of dementia, improving cognitive and social functions. Traditionally it is used to treat asthma and wheezing.
